Parabolic Discone - by Mike Lake KD8CIK

Cross section of the Parabolic Discone antenna and traced with rays to show the directive pattern.

The Discone part is at the focus.  A cone reflector is above the parabola to direct the radio waves sideways again after transmission.  Of course, the reverse is true on reception.  A dipole antenna could also be used at the focus, but with a more limited bandwidth.
